Values

  • Love for the DC Metro Area

Chorus policies, activities, and programming endeavor to promote a creative community that is informed by and welcoming of the many communities in the DC Metro Area, appreciative of regional history and ecological systems, and supportive of local artists and musicians.

  • A commitment to equity and racial justice

We take as grounding norms that Black lives matter; no person is illegal; never again means never again for anyone; disability access is essential, not an afterthought; and that we are present on the traditional lands of the Piscataway and Nacotchtank peoples. We are committed to recognizing and counteracting white supremacy, nativism, and other forms of oppression.

  • Trans safe space + intersectionality

TCCMDC centers and celebrates transgender and gender expansive artistry and experience. While many of us have trans or gender expansive experiences in common, we also hold various identities and experiences of race, class, age, ability, religion, immigration status, and more, and we endeavor to respect and support one another in the fullness of our identities.

  • Fun, supportive, and welcoming environment for musical and artistic development

Our chorus emphasizes joy, creativity, learning, and growth. We have a particular commitment to welcoming singers who are new to group singing, singers who have not sung as part of a group in a long time, and singers who experience shyness or anxiety. Neurodivergence is welcome here.

  • Fostering Community

In our public performances, we strive to create meaningful gatherings and experiences that build community and contribute to the artistic culture of the DC Metro Area.

Mission Statement
